Lake Barkley Bridge Span Moved Into Place

After a long, but productive day Tuesday, the new bridge over Lake Barkley is starting to take shape. Crews spent the day moving the new span into place over the main channel of the Cumberland River. Transportation Cabinet Spokesman Keith Todd says placing the span was the second big step in bridge construction.

Right now, they think the bridge will be open to two lane traffic in about a year. The much anticipated move is a big step forward, but it is also causing delays.

Todd says drivers should take Interstate 24 for the next couple of days. He points out that cold and rainy weather may have kept some people from coming out to watch the big move.

WKDZ and WHVO provided a live video stream from the site. See the pictures of the move.
