Officials Investigating Sheriff Cruiser Theft And Crash

Multiple agencies are investigating the theft of a Trigg County Sheriff's Cruiser that resulted in a pursuit and an accident on the Barkley Bridge near Land Between The Lakes. The accident occurred shortly after the fire occurred around 5:20 at the Better Senior Living Home in Cadiz.

According to law enforcement reports, a resident of personal care home allegedly stole a Trigg County Sheriff's Department truck that had responded to the report of a fire. The suspect then headed west through Cadiz and took US 68 west toward Land Between the Lakes.

The driver of the sheriff's department truck crashed into a car occupied by four Todd County residents on the western side of the Barkley bridge.

The truck caused severe damage to the car, which landed in the construction area for the new Barkley bridge. The truck and car also hit a third vehicle that was being driven by a Murray man.

The driver of the truck is likely facing criminal charges for stealing the truck and possibly setting the fire at the nursing home. The four Todd County occupants of the car, that sustained severe damage, only suffered minor injuries. The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries, but was reportedly taken to Murray Calloway County Hospital to be checked out.

Chief Chad Grace said the Cadiz Police Department is conducting the vehicle theft investigation. Kentucky State Police is conducting the crash investigation.

The accident forced the closure of the Barkley bridge from the time the wreck occurred around 5:45 until nearly 7:20.

More details about the wreck will be released by Kentucky State Police.
