Fort Campbell Soldier Killed In Syria

A Fort Campbell soldier was killed in Manbij, Syria from an explosion Wednesday.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, 37-year-old Army Chief Warrant Officer Jonathan Farmer of Boynton Beach, Florida was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) in Fort Campbell. He was killed in a suicide improvised explosive device.

Also killed in the explosion DOD civilian Scott A. Wirtz of St. Louis, Missouri who was assigned to the Defense Intelligence Agency as an operations support specialist and 35-year-old Navy Chief Cryptologic Technician (Interpretive) Shannon M. Kent of New York. Kent was assigned to Cryptologic Warfare Activity 66, based at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland.
