A Trigg County Deputy Sheriff, who collapsed Friday night, is continuing to recover at a Nashville hospital.

Sheriff Jason Barnes says Deputy Jason Key was taken off a ventilator Saturday afternoon and is breathing on his own.  He says Deputy Keyes is responding well.

Barnes says doctors will place Deputy Key on an EEG for 12 hours to monitor his brain activity.

Reports indicate Deputy Key suffered a high blood pressure incident while on duty Friday night.  His blood pressure reportedly got so high that his brain started to swell, which caused the blood vessels to spasm and resulted in the Deputy collapsing and hitting his head on the cruiser.

He pulled over along Main Street in Cadiz Friday night while responding to a call.  Deputy Key was flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.
