Hopkinsville Turns Out To Salute Veterans

Community members lined the streets of downtown Hopkinsville Saturday morning to show their support for veterans at the 20th annual Veterans Parade.

At the ceremony following the parade, Christian County Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee Chair Lana Bastin thanked everyone and the elected officials for coming out to celebrate those who serve our country. She adds the parade is a way to honor our veterans.

Mayor Carter Hendricks says the veterans need our support every day, not just at the parade or Monday, Veterans Day.
Hendricks and Christian County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble then read a proclamation.
Judge Tribble also thanked all of the veterans and their families for their sacrifices.

The proclamation was presented to VFW Post 1913 Commander John Brame, who expressed his gratitude for those who attended the parade. He also reminded the crowd they will have a program and lunch at the VFW Post 1913 located off of Skyline Drive on Veterans Day, Monday.

Christian County High School was presented the JROTC Challenge Winner award and the School Challenge Winner award went to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School for the 5th year in a role.

Mayor Hendricks also presented a coin plaque to Colonel Mitch Sartain who is retiring after 14 years of serving as the leader of the Junior ROTC at Fort Campbell High School.
