Downburst Caused Saturday Hopkinsville Storm Damage

The National Weather Service says damage on the northwest side of Hopkinsville Saturday was the result of a downburst. Christian County Emergency Management Director Randy Graham says the National Weather Service has determined a downburst packing 100 mile per hour winds left a path of damage for more than 1.6 miles on the northwest side of Hopkinsville. The downburst occurred around 7:35 when a line of severe storms moved through Western Kentucky Saturday morning

The damage was at the PACS Christian County Seniors Center, Ruff Park, Christian County High School, the school district bus garage, the Christian County High School baseball and softball fields and more than 125 homes.

Graham says he has been advised by the National Weather Service there were two EF-1 tornadoes that touched down in southeast Caldwell County near the Cobb community and continued into north Christian County. Official storm reports have not been released on those tornadoes.
