Focus 21st Minority Leadership Class Honors MLK, Jr.

The Focus 21st Century Minority Leadership Program Class of 2020 and Hopkinsville Community College hosted a Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Saturday afternoon.

The event brought out a great number of community members to hear how he changed the nation as HCC Minority Student Union President Kevin Wharton shared King’s story. Christian County High School student Tyquez Douglas presented King’s famous ‘I Have A Dream’ speech, with the Christian County High School choir singing “Wayfaring Stranger” and an arrangement of text from Philippians 4 from the bible.

During her remarks, HCC President/CEO Dr. Alissa Young says freedom is not free.

Dr. Young adds the only way to say thank you to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom is by living up to our full potential.

 

She notes we should ALL stand together.

 

Additionally, awards were presented to several students from the Christian County Public School District who participated in the inaugural art, poem, and essay contest.
