Christian County Leads The Way In Tornado Warnings Issued

Christian County leads the way in Tornado Warnings issued by the National Weather Service in Paducah since 1990.

According to a graphic released Friday, officials report an astonishing 107 Tornado Warnings had been issued in Christian County from January 1, 1990, through January 20, 2020. Stoddard County, Missouri came in second with 87 warnings issued, with Hopkins County and Bollinger County, Missouri tied in third with 84 warnings.

Trigg County had 79 Tornado Warnings during that same period, Caldwell County had 55, Todd County had 52, and Lyon County had the least in the area, at 46.

Officials say the size of Christian County likely plays a big part in the increased number of warnings and add some of the storms that cause the warnings travel northeasterly from Tennessee.

Some of the Tornado Warnings come from as recent as Saturday, January 11, where five tornadoes were confirmed by the National Weather Service from a round of severe storms that quickly swept through the region.

The Paducah National Weather Service Office covers 58 counties in western Kentucky, southwest Indiana, southern Illinois, and southeast Missouri.
