Man Remains In Critical Condition After Hopkinsville Shooting

A Hopkinsville man remains in critical condition in Nashville Tuesday after a shooting on East 2nd Street in Hopkinsville Monday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say they responded to the area after hearing shots fired and found Derrell Bateman was hit one time in the abdomen and laying near the intersection of East 2nd Street and South Vine Street.

Police say the shooter 37-year-old Travis Mayes fled the area and was arrested in Trigg County and charged with first-degree assault.

Mayes was reportedly identified by Bateman as the shooter. Bateman was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center where he was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
