Public Invited To Renovated Museum’s Grand Reopening Thursday

After several months of anticipation, the public will be able to get their first look at the newly renovated Pennyroyal Area Museum during the grand reopening celebration Thursday afternoon.

Officials with the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian and the Christian County Chamber of Commerce will host the grand reopening and ribbon cutting at 3:00, along with comments and tours of the building to follow until 6:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. The grand reopening is free and open to the public.

With up to $1 million provided by a special transient tax put in place by the Christian County Fiscal Court, officials say they have renovated the old Post Office, the home of the Pennyroyal Area Museum since 1976. Officials indicate additional funds were raised through corporate sponsorships and individual donations.

The Pennyroyal Area Museum will resume regular operating hours on Friday. The museum will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Children 3 and under, active duty military and museum members can visit the museum for free. Officials say the Woody Winfree Fire-Transportation Museum will reopen Tuesday, March 3.
