The Hopkinsville-Christian County Downtown Farmers Market will open Saturday in its usual location but there will be several changes due to COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines.

Farmers Market Manager Laura Faulkner tells the News Edge they are being allowed to open under Governor Andy Beshear’s executive order of being an essential life-sustaining business. Under that same order, she adds the Kentucky Department of Agriculture is not allowing any handcrafted items to be sold at this time, with a couple of exceptions.

She adds the Farmers Market will also offer produce, flowers, and other food items.

From a customer perspective, Faulkner says there are a lot of changes due to COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions, including social distancing and standing 6 feet apart, while vendors will be set up about 9 feet apart. In addition, she says all customers are asked to wear masks.
She asks everyone to be patient with the process because it will take longer and will not be as efficient.

Faulkner says they are pushing everyone to their Facebook page where they are sharing all the information about the Farmers Market from vendors and products to what lines customers need to stand in.

The Farmers Market will be open Tuesdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. and is located at the corner of Bethel and West 9th streets in downtown.
