YMCA Excited To Welcome Back Members Monday

Officials with the Hopkinsville-Christian County Family YMCA say they are excited to be able to reopen June 1st. The YMCA has been closed to members since mid-March due to the COVID-19 outbreak and Governor Andy Beshear’s executive order closing all non-essential businesses.

Although the building has been closed during the quarantine, YMCA Membership Director Jason Strickland says they have continued to serve the community by providing emergency child care services and the mobile feeding program.

In addition, he points out machines have been moved around due to social distancing guidelines and a senior workout space has been created for seniors 60 years of age and above.

Strickland says the phased reopening beginning Monday will include the opening of the family fitness room, the track, the TRX cross-training room, weight room, and family wellness room. On June 8, he adds group exercise classes will return and the pool will be open for lap swimming and water aerobics. At this time, he says it is unknown when the pool will reopen for regular swimming. On June 15th, Strickland says rock steady boxing returns and the tennis center reopens.

According to Strickland, they still cannot offer child care at the YMCA at this time until the governor ends the facility serving as a limited duration center.
