The Associated Press reports Amy McGrath overcame a “bumpier-than-expected” Kentucky primary to win the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination Tuesday.
McGrath’s main opponent, Charles Booker, had made the race close over the last few weeks. Booker gained a lot of recent attention due to all of the racial tensions in Louisville following the death of Breonna Taylor.
McGrath will face Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who is seeking a seventh term. Many believe the upcoming campaign will raise a historic amount of funding.
