A Hopkinsville man who pled guilty to manslaughter as part of a plea agreement in a fatal shooting in 2017 on Kenwood Drive was formally sentenced in Christian County Circuit Court Wednesday morning.

Sergio Del Angel was initially charged with murder, three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and other offenses in the death of Kristofer Armstrong on the front porch of a Kenwood Drive home on May 11, 2017.

Del Angel and his attorney, David Rye, and Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jared Smith appeared before Judge John Atkins, who read a victim impact statement letter from Armstrong’s father, Jack Armstrong, Jr.

Armstrong’s mother, Marilee Lockhart appeared virtually and also read an impact statement and said there is no greater pain than having your child die and his murder has been devastating for his son and their family. Lockhart emotionally said all she ever wanted from this life was to have children and her greatest fear was one of them would die.

Following the victim statements, Judge Atkins told Del Angel he has considered probation but he is not eligible. He then read the charges and sentenced Del Angel to a total of 20-years in prison pursuant to the plea agreement.

Del Angel has remained lodged in the Christian County Jail since his arrest and appeared for the sentencing hearing electronically.
