Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, First Lady Britainy Beshear, and Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman honored the more than 3,300 lives lost to COVID-19 across the Commonwealth.

A part of the ceremony involved placing 3,301 flags on the Kentucky Capitol’s front lawn in Frankfort.

Coleman placed her final flag on the lawn in honor of educators, especially Simone Parker, who died January 2.

Governor Beshear added the pace of the pandemic’s destruction is at one of its highest points.

Governor Beshear’s flag honored front-line health care workers lost to the virus, including Dr. 62-year-old Rebecca Shadowen, a physician and infectious disease specialist in Bowling Green.

First Lady Beshear’s flag honored every parent, child, and family member who has lost a loved one to this virus, including 81-year-old Rev. Robert “Bob” Duggan.

On Friday, Kentucky confirmed 2,756 cases and 36 deaths. The statewide positivity rate is now 10.8-percent. There are 1,561 hospitalized, 387 in the ICU, and 195 on the ventilator.
