Man Charged With Arson After Oak Grove Fire (w/Video)

An Oak Grove woman was severely injured and a man was charged after a fire on Zackary Street Sunday night.

Oak Grove Firefighters say smoke was coming from the home, and a woman was trapped inside when they arrived just after 9 pm.  Firefighters say the fire started in the hallway.

Oak Grove Police say the woman’s husband 50-year-old Charles Smalls was arrested later and charged with first-degree arson in connection to the fire.

Police and firemen were able to get the woman out of the home, and she was taken to a waiting helicopter that flew her to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Authorities say the woman is in critical condition.

Smalls was also reportedly inside the home at the time of the fire, but he was able to get out without injury.
