Trial Date Set For Man Charged With Shooting Hopkinsville Police Officer

A trial date has been set for a Clarksville man accused of shooting and injuring a Hopkinsville Police officer in February 2019.

Keith Kuzyk and his public defender Rick Sanborn appeared virtually for a pretrial conference before Christian Circuit Judge John Atkins Wednesday morning. Judge Atkins set Kuzyk’s three-day trial to begin on September 13th.

Kuzyk is charged with attempted murder of a police officer, first-degree assault, felony auto theft, first-degree wanton endangerment, receiving stolen property, and fleeing or evading police. The charges are in connection to a carjacking at the Hopkinsville Walmart on February 18, 2019, when a woman called 911 reporting a masked gunman stole her Chevy Tahoe.

Kuzyk is accused of firing multiple shots at Officer Jeremy Davidson and hitting him in the arm and grazing his head during a pursuit on North Drive later that day when the officer attempted to make a traffic stop. Kuzyk was arrested the following day in Montgomery County, Tennessee after allegedly stealing another vehicle from Hopkinsville.

Officer Davidson was transported to a Nashville hospital and released the following day.

A co-defendant in the case, Anthony Johnson, also of Clarksville, was sentenced to 84 months imprisonment followed by three years supervised release after pleading guilty to carjacking charges in federal court in November 2020.

Two sisters were also charged in the case. Autumn Neblett of Palmyra, Tennessee previously pled guilty to facilitation to robbery, possession of a firearm by a felon, and felony receiving stolen property in Christian County Circuit Court and was sentenced to seven years in jail.

September Neblett of Clarksville was given a five-year sentence in Christian County on facilitation to robbery and felony receiving property. She will be eligible for shock probation.
