Beshear: Major Changes Needed in Kentucky’s Unemployment System

Governor Andy Beshear said changes need to be made to the state’s unemployment system, even though the Kentucky legislature did not provide any additional funding to help.

During the COVID-19 news conference Tuesday, Governor Beshear was asked about what needs to be fixed with the system to ensure the current problem never happens again.

Beshear said the General Assembly did not permanently fund any requests made to help address the issues.

Beshear added they are finding new ways with the current system to help people daily.

Beshear said the long-term fix for the system is changing federal and state laws.

He added the other long-term fix is raising the unemployment department’s budget and adding more employees.
