Assault Charge Upgraded To Manslaughter In Trigg Man’s Death

Assault charges against a Christian County woman will be upgraded to manslaughter following a New Year’s Day crash near Roaring Spring.

Trigg County Sheriff Aaron Acree said 22-year-old Machaela Carpinet of Herndon will be charged with second-degree manslaughter — a Class C felony — and be arraigned in Trigg County District Court next week.

The sheriff’s office said John Brandon was hit by an SUV driven by Machaela Carpinet as Brandon was walking along Military Road near the Roaring Springs Christian Church on New Year’s Day morning. Brandon died from the injuries sustained in the crash at a Nashville hospital on January 4.

Carpinet was arrested at the scene and charged with DUI with aggravated circumstances, having no driver’s license, no insurance, and the second-degree assault charge that has now been upgraded.

She remains in the Christian County Jail under a $750,000 cash bond.
