HCCPL Awarded Considerable KDLA Grant

The Hopkinsville Christian County Public Library has been awarded a Public Library Facilities Construction Fund grant from the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives, in order to renovate and upgrade the current facility at 1101 Bethel Street.

For the next 20 years, the library will receive $37,710 from the KDLA to assist with debt retirement.

According to HCCPL Executive Director DeeAnna Sova, the building renovation will enable library staff to provide additional programming for children, teens and adults. It will include a large conference room, quiet study spaces and a makerspace, where patrons with shared interests — especially in computing or technology — can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment and knowledge.

“On behalf of the HCCPL staff and Board of Trustees, we are humbled and excited to be one of the recipients chosen for this construction grant,” Sova said in a release. “This funding will provide the opportunity for improvements and upgrades to be made to our library that will enhance the patron experience. It will provide the opportunity for more advanced programming, provide increased technology, increase the library’s collection and transform the current footprint into a more functional space for patrons.”

The library opened at the current Bethel Street location in January 1977, having moved from the Carnegie Library on Liberty Street. The library is open 6 days a week and provides, entertainment, education and programming opportunities for over 2500 patrons each month.

The Public Library Facilities Construction Fund program was designed to improve local library facilities around the state. KDLA provides equitable access to quality library and information resources and services, as well as helps public agencies ensure that legislatively mandated documentation of government programs is created, efficiently maintained and made accessible.

Sova said HCCPL is in the early stages of the planning and preparation of the project, and looks forward to
sharing more information in the coming months.
