Southern States Hopkinsville Co-op Finds New Home

Hopkinsville damage was extensive following the January 1, 2022 tornado. Southern States Co-op was among the businesses heavily hit.

Originally located at 501 East 13th Street in Hopkinsville, the Southern States Cooperative sustained significant damage in the surprising and destructive tornado on New Year’s Day.

Now, the locally-owned farming cooperative and popular business has a new home.

Organized more than 70 years ago to provide agricultural products and services to the community, Southern States officials announced a new location Tuesday afternoon — at the former Agri-Chem facility on 1106 West 15th Street, with the same phone number of 270-885-8461.

Branch Manager Tyler Hancock noted the business was closed on January 1 for the holiday, and that “thankfully” no one was at work or hurt during the storm.

He added that he and the staff have been busy the last month salvaging inventory, repairing equipment and demolishing what remained, but was beyond repair.

The move, he said, results in a quick return to operations, and in a facility that requires little renovations.
