Sixth Annual Touch-A-Truck Set For Saturday

Two years after its cancellation, and one year after being pushed into the late fall months, the Sixth Annual Touch-A-Truck is back, and bigger, for west Kentucky’s families.

Set for 10 AM until 1 PM this Saturday at Debow Recreational Park in Hopkinsville, Parks & Recreation Director Tab Brockman notes the three-hour spectacular will have most vehicles its ever had in its history.

And the vehicles will come from a wide variety of operation.

For a comparison, last year’s popular Touch-A-Truck had more than 40 pieces of equipment for kids to enjoy: garbage trucks, police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, tractors, construction equipment, army vehicles, and even an Air Evac helicopter.

Per usual, Brockman said everything was free. No cost for entry. No cost for hot dogs. No cost for balloons. No cost for snow cones. And no cost for face paintings.

One of the more underlying storylines of the Touch-A-Truck celebration continues to be the time sacrificed by organizations — who have to give up three hours on a typical off-day in order to provide the entertainment.

Interestingly enough, kids clamoring on the machinery could spark interest in these jobs, and Brockman thanked those who took the time for this weekend’s party.

This year’s capital sponsor, Huhtamaki Inc., is new to the experience. Located at 203 Commerce Court in Hopkinsville, the company is a leading manufacturer of packaging for consumer goods like tableware, cups, folding cartons, containers, carriers, trays and serviceware for the food industry and retail market.

As for Saturday’s weather, temperatures are expected to be in the mid-to-upper 70s with mostly sunny skies. Showers and thunderstorms are expected later, after the event concludes.
