Mayfield Consumer Products Rebuilding Candle Factory

Mayfield’s candle factory garnered unfortunate, harrowing headlines last December — when an EF-4 tornado ripped through Graves County and west Kentucky.

It destroyed the facility, and claimed nine lives in the wake.

Officially known as Mayfield Consumer Products LLC, company officials alongside Gov. Andy Beshear announced Thursday the re-establishing of the factory in Graves County. A promised investment will total $33.3 million and employ more than 500 people full-time over the next five years.

MCP has already begun construction of a 40,000-square-foot expansion, that includes a $2.3 million investment. The company now plans an additional 63,000-square-foot expansion with a $31 million commitment, which will push its total space at the Hickory Industrial Park facility to 300,000 square feet.

This project consolidates all operations in Graves County, following the total loss of the separate facility in December’s destruction. Leaders have confirmed this expansion to be complete by 2023.

Beshear assured this isn’t the last major announcement for Graves County and western Kentucky’s labor force.

Founded in Mayfield in 1998, MCP is a family-owned company retained by the Propes, after divesting interests in MVP Group International. The company currently employs 160 people in west Kentucky, and it manufactures for many top global brands — including Bath & Body Works.
