Judge Denies Motion To Return Property To Clearman Court Murder Suspect

Christian Circuit Court Judge John Atkins denied a motion to return property in the case of a Hopkinsville man accused in a fatal shooting on Clearman Court in December of 2021.

49-year old Bobby Spikes, who had dual addresses of Hopkinsville and Princeton, is charged with murder in the death of Stanley Bussell on December 9th.

During a hearing Wednesday morning, Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling and public defender Munroe Graham argued the motion to return some money that was seized from Spikes.

click to download audioAfter hearing the arguments from attorneys and Spikes, Judge Atkins says the money is going to stay where it is at this time and he denied the motion.

click to download audioJudge Atkins continued the case until the trial date set for January 23-27, 2023.

According to state police, Spikes reportedly shot and killed 34-year old Candice Marcel who was found in a passenger seat of a car that was discovered by a Trigg County Sheriff’s deputy while on patrol on Cerulean Road on December 9th, 2021. During the investigation into her death, state police went to Marcel’s home and found the body of Bussell.

The investigation also revealed that Bussell was allegedly lured by his co-worker, Marcel, to her residence where he was shot in the head. The state police report noted that Spikes was the boyfriend of Marcel and was known to frequent her residence.
