Man Charged With Assaulting Officer During Theft Investigation

A Hopkinsville man was charged with assaulting an officer after a report of a package being stolen off a porch on East 9th Street Friday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say they were called to the area for a package being stolen off of the front porch of an apartment complex and the caller pointed out the apartment the suspect went inside.

When law enforcement knocked on the door 38-year-old Ashley McGregor reportedly answered the door and allowed officers to come inside.

Police say marijuana and synthetic marijuana were in plain view and after a search of McGregor’s purse, a glass smoking device containing meth was found.

She was arrested along with 22-year-old Ricky Sanders and 25-year-old Earl Cook was also in the apartment but he was cited to court on his charge. During the arrest, Sanders reportedly resisted arrest by fighting with law enforcement before kicking one of the officers.

McGregor and Cook were both charged with possession of synthetic drugs. McGregor was also charged with possession of meth and marijuana.

Sanders was charged with resisting arrest, third-degree assault of a police officer, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of synthetic drugs.
