Judge Andrew Self had a criminal trial wrap in Hopkinsville Tuesday afternoon, with Cadiz man John Lynch being convicted of first-degree burglary and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The decision comes nearly two years after a true bill was returned by a Christian County Grand Jury in fall 2024, with charges of first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, first-degree strangulation, unlawful imprisonment, intimidating a participant in a legal process and violation of an EPO/DVO.

According to reports from the Hopkinsville Police Department, the charges stemmed from a September 3, 2024 incident, in which Lynch entered a home while his wife was sleeping.

From there, he twice electrocuted her, further assaulted her, sat on top of her, choked her while threatening to kill her, and then ripped her clothes.

When she tried to escape, Lynch allegedly pulled her back in the home by her hair.

Police said the woman suffered several injuries, including burns from the electrical cord that was used to electrocute her.
