A six-vehicle wreck on Interstate 24 in Christian County led to the road being temporarily blocked at the 83-mile marker on Saturday morning.
Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say that at 1:10 am, a westbound car hit the cable barriers causing the vehicle to cross into the eastbound lanes through a turnabout before being hit by an eastbound tractor-trailer and a car.
An Oak Grove Fire Department engine was responding to the call and turning into the turnabout with lights and sirens on when it was hit by a westbound SUV that was hit from behind by a second SUV.
Five people were checked out by Hopkinsville EMS but declined being taken to the hospital.
The road was reopened after about an hour and both wrecks happened outside the construction area.
Deputies say the tractor-trailer did not stop after the crash.
