Hundreds Turn Out for Annual Take Kids Fishing Day (w/PHOTOS)

Despite gray skies and a few scattered sprinkles, a wave of excitement swept through the Jeffers Bend Environmental Center as hundreds of families gathered to celebrate Take Kids Fishing Day—a tradition that’s been going strong for a quarter of a century.

Founder and event coordinator Charles Turner says Take Kids Fishing Day has been running for 25 years.

click to download audioTurner says they appreciate all of their sponsors who support Take Kids Fishing Day, noting their contributions have allowed them to keep the fee for the event at a minimal cost all these years.

Turner estimated that 500 to 800 people had attended by mid-morning Saturday, and expected the crowd to grow before the event wrapped up at noon.
