$15,000 Worth Of Meth Seized During I-69 Traffic Stop

Two Madisonville residents were arrested on drug trafficking and other charges after a traffic stop on Interstate 69 in Hopkins County Sunday afternoon.

According to the Madisonville Police Department, a vehicle was pulled over for a speeding violation. 22-year old Macey McElfresh and 26-year old Anthey Jones Jr. were allegedly under the influence of marijuana and both displayed signs of extreme nervousness. Officers report that due to the smell of the vehicle, a search was conducted, with a small amount of marijuana and a loaded Glock 9mm Handgun in the glove box.

The handgun was reportedly stolen from Evansville, Indiana, with McElfresh, the driver found to have a small amount of methamphetamine on her. A further search of the vehicle found a large bag of meth in the trunk, with the reported street value of approximately $15,000. The passenger, Jones Jr., a convicted felon, was also found to have a large amount of cash.

Both McElfresh and Jones Jr. were arrested and charged with 1st-degree trafficking in a controlled substance – meth – firearm enhanced, possession of marijuana, and receiving a stolen firearm.

Jones Jr. was also charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, with McElfresh facing additional charges of DUI and tampering with physical evidence. Both were lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center.
