HES Presents Annual Report To Hopkinsville City Council

Hopkinsville Electric System General Manager Jeff Hurd presented the utility company’s annual report at the Hopkinsville City Council meeting Tuesday night.

Accountant Lindsey Thomas of Duguid, Gentry & Associates P.S.C. presented the audit report for HES and said the utility received a clean opinion. She also shared the audit’s combined electric and telecommunications financial statements of revenue and expenses with the total net position of the utility.

After the audit report, Hurd said the utility just completed its 77th year of providing service to Hopkinsville and they are very proud to be able to offer internet and electric service to the community. He then talked about the three components of their mission statement, with a primary focus on safety.

Hurd noted they just completed the LED street light project, which he said was a win-win situation for Hopkinsville and the utility as far as reducing energy and maintenance costs.

In addition, Hurd stated the utility has been providing internet service since 1999, which has grown by leaps and bounds in the last few years. Last January, he said they started the Gig City Project to replace a lot of their wireless system to homes with fiber.

Hurd concluded his report by thanking all of the employees and said he is very proud of the utility and its employee’s involvement in the community. He noted HES and its employees are involved in with several events and organizations including being a sponsor of the Christmas parade, being a part of the American Heart Walk, Pennyroyal Arts Council, and the Pow-Wow event — to the United Way Caregivers giving over $25,000 to the United Way of the Pennyrile.
