Thomas Sworn-In As Next Major For Cadiz Police Department

A police officer who has served the community for nearly six years was promoted during Tuesday evening’s Cadiz City Council meeting.

Sergeant Tyler Thomas was sworn-in to become the next major for the department by Mayor Todd King.

Chief Duncan Wiggins told council members a major is generally a training director for the department.

Chief Wiggins pinned a new badge on Thomas’ uniform, with his fiance, Debra Oliver, placing a new pin on his collar.

In other action, council heard the first reading of ordinances pertaining to the 2019-2020 amended budget and the 2020-21 budget. As we have previously reported, the only changes for the amended budget reflect increases in revenue for the water department because of construction for the new water treatment facility near Transcraft. City Clerk Brian Ahart notes there are no major changes for the next fiscal year’s budget, which shows revenues for the water department over $6.5-million and city revenues at nearly $3.5-million.

Members also heard from South West Kentucky Economic Development Council Director Carter Hendricks about what they are doing for Trigg, Christian, and Todd counties. During the February 2019 meeting, council voted to sever ties with the EDC.

Councilwoman Susan Bryant reaffirmed her stance Tuesday night why she has no interest in providing any financial support.

Hendricks notes no matter what they will continue their business recruitment and other efforts for the residents of Cadiz and Trigg County.
