A Drop In Gas Tax Revenue Impacting Christian County

Christian County will likely feel the impact of a reduction in gas tax revenue because of people not driving due to COVID-19.

Judge-Executive Steve Tribble explained to magistrates Tuesday morning that the revised 2020-2021 rural and secondary road program memorandum of agreement and the resolution includes a reduction in the gas tax revenue of more than $220,000 from the previous amount approved by fiscal court for approximately $1,849,647.

Judge Tribble said he has also been informed they will not be getting a final check previously approved by fiscal court last year for over $200,000, which he added is disappointing.

The agreement and resolution were unanimously approved by magistrates.
Christian County Jailer and president of the state’s jailer association, Brad Boyd said they have been asked to come up with a comprehensive plan on putting inmates back into community service work possibly as early as next week.

Magistrates also approved a recommendation from Mack Major from Higgins Insurance regarding the renewal of the county’s Anthem policy that includes no additional costs to employees in the next fiscal year.

In other action, magistrates approved a $25,000 funding request from the New Horizon Scholar House on Glass Avenue, which includes 48 units and provides subsidized opportunities for families, particularly single parents who have children, who wish to go back to school and pursue their degree full-time.

The next fiscal court meeting will be Tuesday morning, May 26, at 8:30.
