Governor Beshear Says Unemployment Issues Getting Fixed

Governor Andy Beshear says issues with unemployment are improving, even as COVID-19 case numbers continue to increase.

During his Thursday afternoon update, Beshear praised Ernst & Young for the good job they have done in reducing the number claims that need to be dealt with.

Beshear believes there are about 5,060 claims left from March that need to be resolved. He adds in order to receive help, those who need it must answer the phone call from (502) 333-9130.

In COVID-19 cases, Governor Beshear confirmed 413 new cases Thursday. Among the new cases, 13 are among children under the age of 5.

Currently, 418 are hospitalized across the Commonwealth, with 92 people in the ICU.

Beshear also confirmed 5 new deaths, raising the state’s death toll to 650.

In long-term care facilities, 51 residents and 47 staff members have tested positive for the virus, with three resident deaths reported Thursday.

When asked about what he has heard about compliance for the mask mandate, Beshear says he has heard good things.

He says major retailers who are now starting to implement mask mandates of their own are now starting to follow the state’s lead in doing the right thing.
