Hopkinsville Man Fled From Police After Shoplifting 

A Hopkinsville man was charged after he reportedly fled from police after he was caught shoplifting at Walmart in Hopkinsville Saturday morning.

Hopkinsville Police say 69-year-old George Hopkins was caught shoplifting at Walmart and was seen by employees leaving in a car before police arrived.
Police reportedly located Hopkins’s vehicle getting onto Pennyrile Parkway and attempted to stop him and he fled failing to stop at a red light on East 9th Street.
Hopkinsville Police terminated the pursuit but followed his vehicle as long as they could before losing him on Greenville Road.
Christian County Sheriff’s deputies located the vehicle at an abandoned house on Woodbine Road. Hopkins who is on an ankle monitor for prior charges was located at his home on West 1st Street.
Hopkins reportedly told police he had sold the car three days before and had not left his home but the information from his ankle monitor showed him in the area of Walmart.
Police say he was identified as the shoplifter. Hopkins is charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police and theft by unlawful taking.
