Man Charged After High-Speed Pursuit

Police have released the name of a man charged after a high-speed pursuit that started in the area of Interstate 69 and ended in Crofton Thursday night.

Kentucky State Police say they stopped a truck in Hopkins County and as they talked with the driver the passenger 33-year-old Steven Spurlin of Mortons Gap got behind the wheel of the truck.

Spurlin reportedly fled at a high rate of speed into Christian County on US 41 where spike strips were used in the area of Mannington Loop.

During the pursuit, Spurlin reportedly tried to hit law enforcement several times before running off the road and hitting a street sign at the intersection of Madisonville Road and Kentucky 800.

Authorities say during the original traffic stop Spurlin gave them a false name.

Spurlin was reportedly taken into custody and identified by a mobile fingerprint scanning device after a short foot pursuit.

He is charged with reckless driving, first-degree fleeing or evading police, DUI, theft by unlawful taking, and theft of identity.
