Historic Downtown Princeton Building Collapses (w/VIDEO)

An historic building on the court square in downtown Princeton suffered a partial collapse early Thursday morning.

According to reports from Caldwell County emergency officials, a portion of the front and side of the Princeton One-Hour Cleaners building collapsed, with the rubble causing a portion of Market Street near the 100 block to be closed. The closure is also impacting traffic in Princeton on other roadways that pass through the downtown area.

Princeton Fire Chief Brent Francis said in a statement the building was vacant. There were no injuries reported and there was no indication of any type of hazardous material spill.

Emergency personnel were called to the scene just before 4 am and found the building badly damaged. The surrounding roads will remain closed temporarily as debris is cleared from the area.
