East 9th Street Shooting Suspect Appears For Arraignment

A man charged with attempted murder in connection to a March shooting at a Hopkinsville gas station appeared in Christian County Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon.

21-year old Jaylynn Cheatham appeared virtually from the Christian County Jail before Judge Andrew Self. Cheatham’s attorney, David Rye entered a not guilty plea and the judge set a pretrial conference for the afternoon of July 14 at 1:00.

Cheatham is accused of shooting 20-year old Darrius Quarles, of Hopkinsville, and 38-year old Byran Jones, of Cadiz, on March 27th at the Marathon gas station on East 9th and South Campbell streets. Police said Quarles was shot several times and was transported by ambulance to Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville. Jones reportedly showed up at Jennie Stuart Medical Center after the shooting where he was treated and released.

Cheatham is also charged with two counts of first-degree assault, and four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. He remains lodged in the Christian County Jail.
