June 2022 Trial Date Set in Streeval Murder Case

A June 2022 trial date has been set for the Cadiz man charged with killing a Muhlenberg County man and dumping his body in eastern Trigg County last year.

Monte Streeval appeared virtually Monday in Trigg County Circuit Court before Judge C.A. Woodall.

Streeval is charged with murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon in connection to the death of Cameron Phillips of Powderly in August of last year. An autopsy revealed Phillips died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

State Police said Streeval had picked up Phillips for an alleged drug deal and drove to Cadiz. Phillips’s body was found in a wooded area near a cemetery on Old Rocky Point Road. Police said Streeval was familiar with this area and denied committing the crimes.

Streeval’s attorney Bill Deatherage of Hopkinsville has filed a request for a bond reduction with the Commonwealth expected to file a response within a week.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins said there are some lab reports they are still waiting to receive.

Judge Woodall set Streeval’s trial date for July 25, 2022, with the trial expected to last about a week.

Streeval will appear in court again on October 13 for a pre-trial conference.
