Mayor Lynch Shares Progress Report On Tornado Cleanup Efforts

Hopkinsville City Council heard a brief progress report from the mayor about the clean-up efforts from the New Year’s Day EF-2 tornado that hit a portion of downtown.

Mayor Wendell Lynch said the debris clean-up process is underway and the burn piles have begun after getting approval from the state for a temporary burn site.

click to download audioIn new business, city council unanimously approved Phillip Brooks as the presiding officer in the absence of the mayor by an 8-0 vote. Kimberly McCarley, Chuck Crabtree, Patricia Waddell-Bell and Phillip Brooks were absent from the meeting.

City Council also unanimously approved electrical inspector contracts with Mark Gray, Roger Guinn, Donald Henry, Lewis Hopper, John T. Jenkins, and Terrill Snodgrass.

During reports, city council heard an update from Operations Supervisor Ryan Tolbert with Atmos Energy about the 17th Street and Phelps Avenue projects. He said the installation of 68 services has been completed along with 85% of the concrete work.

In addition, he said the Phelps Avenue project that was scheduled to start in March will start sooner and impact 110 services.

The council also heard from Executive Director Carter Hendricks with the South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council who provided a summary of new industry and manufacturer expansions in Christian, Todd and Trigg counties in 2021, along with the workforce community patterns, the future EV charging station, the results of the Wage and Skills Survey, and the EDC’s plan for 2022.
