Hopkinsville Woman Charged With Endangering Child

A Hopkinsville woman was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor after a child was found in a car alone in a parking lot in Hopkinsville Friday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say 31-year-old Britteney Upton left her child under 2-years-old alone in the car while she went inside a store on Skyline Drive to buy a pot for cooking chili. She reportedly told police she didn’t want to take the child out in the cold while she went into the store.

Upton was located by police on East 9th Street and the tag on the vehicle was canceled due to failure to maintain insurance.

Upton was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor, failure to maintain required insurance, and no registration plates.
