Two Women Killed, Child Injured In I-24 Crash In Lyon County

Two Missouri women were killed and a juvenile was injured in a two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 24 in Lyon County Tuesday evening.

Kentucky State Police reports the wreck claimed the lives of 35-year old Amanda McAmis and 79-year old Sondra McAmis, both of Wentzville.

According to state police, the Post 1 collision reconstruction team was sent to the scene after they received the call of a two-vehicle crash near the 49-mile marker on I-24 in Lyon County just before 6:00 p.m.

Police say the initial investigation shows Amanda McAmis was driving a compact SUV westbound on I-24 with Sondra McAmis and a juvenile passenger in the vehicle. McAmis reportedly crossed the median, entered the eastbound lane, and collided with a semi-tractor trailer driven by 66-year old David Royer, of Galena, Missouri. Police say Amanda McAmis was ejected from the vehicle. She and Sondra McAmis were pronounced dead at the scene by the Lyon County Coroner. Police say the juvenile passenger was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries and later transferred to an out-of-state hospital for further treatment. The semi-driver was not injured in the crash.

State police say heavy rain is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision.

Kentucky State Police are continuing to investigate the fatal wreck. Troopers were assisted on the scene by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County EMS, the Lyon County Coroner, and the Kentucky Transportation Department.
