Gas price averages kept up their tumble heading into this week, now down to $3.15 per gallon.

According to the AAA East Central Gas Report, that’s four cents lower than the previous week, but still nearly 30 cents higher than this time last year — when average prices in west Kentucky were $2.86/gallon.

Unleaded, self-serve gasoline averages are $3.06 in Owensboro, $3.07 in Elizabethtown, $3.08 in Paducah, $3.22 in Bowling Green and $3.36 in Louisville.

But while gas prices keep dropping here in the Commonwealth, national averages rose once again — a nickel over the past week to $3.72. Higher regional prices on the West Coast and the Midwest, due to wide-ranging issues at multiple refineries, has been highlighted as the cause.

Officials believe Hurricane Ian’s arrival, depending on its track, could disrupt oil production in the Gulf of Mexico and its swathe of large coastal refineries.

Today’s national average is 14 cents less than a month ago, but still 54 cents more than a year ago.
