Two Firefighters Treated After Battling Destructive Field Fire

Two firefighters were injured battling a beanfield fire in Princeton that consumed a home, vehicles, and damaged some farm equipment.

Princeton firefighters were dispatched to a field fire on Maple Street shortly before 3:15 Friday afternoon. Assistant Fire Chief Tim Cook says the fire started in the area of a combine and was fueled by the windy conditions.

click to download audioHe says 27 firefighters from several area fire departments, the U.S. Forest Service, along with some local farmers responded to the scene to help fight the fire.

The fire consumed several acres, a home, multiple vehicles, and trailers.

According to Cook, two Princeton firefighters were injured, treated and released.

Cook says the current conditions are very dangerous and stressed that no one should burn anything right now.

click to download audioOn Thursday, Judge-Executive Larry Curling issued a burn ban by executive order that prohibits all outdoor burning until further notice.
