Sova Stepping Down As Library Executive Director

A change in leadership is coming to the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library.Officials with the organization announced late Monday night that DeeAnna Sova, executive director, is stepping down effective February 1 — after accepting a position within the up-and-coming electric vehicle battery plant Ascend Elements in Hopkinsville.

In the interim, Tiffany Luna has been appointed in Sova’s place. She has been with the library for six years, after beginning in 2016 as a part-time library assistant. Luna was promoted to youth services librarian in 2017, and since 2019 has served as HCCPL’s operations director.

During Tuesday morning’s Christian County Fiscal Court meeting, Sova gave Luna a full and resounding endorsement for the helm.

Sova also thanked a body that has been more than supportive of the library’s efforts — most recently approving the literature and litigation of a $750,000 grant from the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives to complete a much-needed inside renovation.

Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam noted a recent 10-year celebration of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Christian County was just one small facet of HCCPL’s success in the last decade — much of it under Sova’s leadership.

Gilliam also thanked Sova for her service, which lasted about a half decade.

In a Monday night written statement, HCCPL Board Chair Bart Cayce noted that Sova had been “a force for change and the evolution of how [Hopkinsville’s] library engages and communicates with patrons.”

Cayce added that they are “confident Luna, and the entire library team, will continue to move [HCCPL] forward during the transition.”
