Officials Attest Holiday Burgers ‘A Success’ At HCC

Much to the joy of students and faculty alike, Holiday Burgers at the Pathfinder Grill has simply nourished minds and souls at Hopkinsville Community College.

Observing its soft opening to the public the first week of February, the local eatery is the first kiosk in a long time for the campus. And during a Monday report to the HCC Board of Directors, President & CEO Dr. Alissa Young noted things are going extremely well right out of the gate, and into the gullet.

Young offered the fact that she and her staff are looking to “spread the word” of their arrival, simply because the location — there in the comfy back-left corner of the Emerging Technologies building — isn’t just available to those on campus.

The public is also welcome to come and enjoy one of the many breakfast and lunch items on the menus.

Dr. Dale Leatherman and others suggested one particular item won’t disappoint.

Leatherman added that it’s “been years” since a full-time option has been available on HCC’s property. Vending machines have long been the option, and he noted that food trucks were tried at one time — only to find such service inconsistent.

Furthermore, Leatherman said the Pathfinder Grill and its bid process was supposed to be completed and realized as early as the 2019-20 school year. But as explorations and plans started moving in motion, COVID-19 shut down public food service options for the campus — and the country.

Student visitors and local patrons, he said, also have a quick option if they don’t want to sit down for a meal.

Young also noted they cater, as well, and are open from 7:30 AM until 2 PM Monday-Friday.

In other collegiate news:

— Known as the youngest of the Freedom Riders, HCC will be hosting Hezekiah Watkins on April 20. He was arrested more than 100 times in his early years. A time for his lecture hasn’t been determined yet, but Dr. Young noted he will likely visit in the daytime as part of a regional circuit of talks, and that she’d like to see several local schools get involved with his visit.

— Convocation/Graduation is May 5, with times of noon and 3 PM planned for the graduation classes.

— The HCC Gala is returning this year, and is set for 6 PM August 24 at Burdoc Farms in Crofton.
