Both Sides Seeking Resolution In Curtis Murder

A July trial date may not happen for Shaylynn Curtis, the Trigg County woman charged with killing her infant child in 2021.

During a Wednesday pre-trial conference in Trigg County Circuit Court, Curtis’ public defender Katy Riley and Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins both said that resolution — or perhaps mediation — would be possible before calling a jury.

Riley and Ovey-Wiggins made it clear it’s something they’d like to see happen, and could happen soon.

Her next pre-trial conference was set for April 12.

Curtis is charged with abuse of a corpse, murder, first-degree trafficking methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and second-degree disorderly conduct.

All charges stem from a Kentucky State Police investigation, in which it was discovered and reported that Curtis reportedly took the body of her deceased 5-month-old, wrapped the child in a blanket, and placed him in the attic of her East Adams Mill Road home.
