Wiggins Puts the Wraps On His 29-Year Cadiz Police Career

After 29 years with the City of Cadiz, Police Chief Duncan Wiggins retires as one, if not the, longest serving member of its police department.

A crowd of former and current Cadiz police officers as well as law enforcement from the area had the chance Friday to swap stories, give regards, and bid farewell to Wiggins, who worked the final shift of his law enforcement career.

Mayor Todd King presented the outgoing chief of four years with a key to the city.

click to download audioA California native, Wiggins was stationed in the Army at Fort Campbell and served in Operation Desert Storm. He worked two years with the Guthrie Police Department before being chosen from an applicant pool of 93 people when he was hired in Cadiz in 1994. He attained the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant, and major with the department before being named chief in September 2019.

Wiggins served as the department’s firearms and training instructor and was instrumental in implementing active shooter training for officers at the school in cooperation with school administrators. Twice, that training paid off with a gun taken from a student on the campus of Trigg County Schools without incident.

He furthered his training throughout his career through the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice and the FBI.

Wiggins signed off one final time to Trigg Dispatch at the conclusion of his last shift.
