Kentucky Historical Society Marking First Amish Community In Todd County

A Kentucky Historical Marker dedication ceremony will be held at 10 AM Thursday, denoting the first Amish settlement in the Commonwealth — which happens to be in southern Todd County.

Established in 1958, there are now more than 30 such settlements throughout Kentucky.

Among those making remarks at the celebration include Dr. James Seaver, community engagement coordinator for the Kentucky Historical Society, as well as retired Bishop Daniel Beachy of the Guthrie Amish community.

The dedication will take place at 8360 Guthrie Road (KY 181), a quarter-mile south of Penchem Tack Store.
