A fire that started in a building owned by Southern Exterminators/Southern Tire and Auto on Lafayette Street in Cadiz severely damaged the building Wednesday afternoon.
Cadiz Fire Department Assistant Chief Stacey Woods says they were called just after 12 p.m. for a fire in the basement of the building and when they arrived fire and smoke were coming from the structure.
East Golden Pond and Montgomery fire departments were all called to help in extinguishing the fire that took 20 firefighters to contain.
Woods says they had issues extinguishing small fires hidden under the metal sheets but they are still looking for what may have started the fire.
No one was injured says Woods adding the owner of the business attempted to extinguish the fire but was unable to contain it before firefighters arrived.
