Christian County School Board Moves Forward with Building Transitions

While work is under way at the new Christian County High School, the district is implementing the rest of the district facilities plan.

Thursday night, the School Board voted to close MLK Elementary at the end of this school year as well as to move HMS to the building, Indian Hills to the Koffman Drive HMS, and to make the old Indian Hills the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Early Learning Center.

Board member, Lindsey Clark asked Facilities Coordinator Trevor Herndon if summer was enough time to move all the schools.

click to download audioThe MLK Early Learning Center will house the Inspire Learning Academy, preschool, and District Early Learning Services.

Assistant Superintendent, Jessica Addison says the boards vote to make elementary schools PreK through 5th and middle schools 6th through 8th aligns the district with state benchmarks as well as codes of conduct and is beneficial to the students.

click to download audioThe new dividing line will be Cox Mill Road. Letters will go out to all families with students enrolled in the district in the next few months, but Wilson says they have an interactive map parents can use by inputting their address to view which schools their child will attend.

In other business, the board voted to pay $2.8 million to contractors at the new combined high school construction this month . Wilson says they are making progress at the new site.

click to download audioThe board also approved the first reading of the 2024-2025 school calendar, which has students starting August 26th and, barring inclement weather, finishing May 23rd.
